Load stress testing & performance tuning 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Hi all,

I have an XAware application deployed on WLS (Weblogic server)I have compared it to tests run on a bespoke application running the same quires, using Spring, with the same settings on WLS.

I am seeing a significant degradation in performance, the applications just reads from a DB no joins nothing special.

I have been looking for unit/performance tests run on XAware without success.

Could someone shed some light on this for me.

Regards,

Noam.

Hi Noam,

The XAware engine interprets a script language (XA-Script). It will always be slower than a native application. We find that just about every customer finds the performance acceptable, however. For the overall data integration process, some time is spent in accessing data, some time in transformation, some time in script processing overhead, and some time in transport. We generally find that the data access and transport latencies outweigh the other factors by a considerable margin.

We are looking for performance enhancements, and implemented a few for the recent 5.4 release. I believe there are more opportunities in this area. But again, most customers are finding performance acceptable, given the tradeoff of the flexibility of a dynamic scripting language versus a coded solution.

Feel free to describe your real-world environment (what types of services are you trying to build?), and we can hopefully offer suggestions on how to optimize that use case.

Thanks,

-Kirstan

Hi Kirstan,

Sorry for not getting back sooner, I was just getting our test team to compare the 2 implementation of the data service:
1. Using XAware
2. Using straight JDBC prepare statements (part of a webapp web service using Spring but not for the JDBC calls).

Please find attached the results.

As you can see the degradation is considerable.
I am trying to sell this to the business, I have managed to get them to see the benefit of time to market and a single data integration layer, the only stumbling block is the performance, a small reduction in performance would be acceptable.

This specific service just reads from an oracle database, both services are deployed on Weblogic server, both have the same JVM settings and patches and both use the same configuration for the connection pools (data sources).

I would like to have your thoughts about this, if you need any more information please let me know.

Regards,

Noam.

Hi Guys,

Have you had a look at project I have sent to you, with the DDL and the sample Java code I have sent you?

Regards,

Noam
