Running standalone jboss-4.0.5.GA as a Windows Ser 11 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 5
This is a new thread related to:
This thread

The attached zip is to allow a standalone jboss-4.0.5.GA installation on Windows to run as a Windows Service. Whenever a Windows patch is applied and the server needs rebooting, this allows JBoss to restart automatically. The XAware .ear will be deployed on this JBoss instance.

The easiest configuration method at this time is to extract the attached zip file and overlay the extracted jboss-4.0.5.GA folder to the installed standalone jboss-4.0.5.GA instance. The provided configuration is currently set up as if jboss-4.0.5.GA was installed on a physical E:\ drive; e.g., e:\jboss-4.0.5.GA. Simply drag the extracted jboss-4.0.5.GA folder to E:\ root, and click Yes to All.

I setup the Java 1.5 SDK at e:\jdk150 as a sibling folder to JBoss. I also set up the XAware_Home as a sibling folder to JBoss and the SDK such that any future upgrades of JBoss and/or XAware can be done independently of each other.

This configuration incorporates Method 1 of the Tanuki Java Service Wrapper (JSW) to integrate JBoss as a Windows Service. For more information see:
This link.

Method 1 is very simplistic approach but be forewarned that the Windows Service Panel does not provide an accurate reflection whether JBoss is fully stopped or started. Check the server.log file. Method 2 MAY be more reliable -- I have NOT explored this approach as I have found that Method 1 is sufficent for the City of Minneapolis needs.

This zip includes the latest Tanuki Java Service Wrapper (wrapper-windows-x86-32-3.2.3), which is available at SourceForge:

To configure:

1) Edit e:\jboss-4.0.5.GA\bin\InstallXAwareWrapper.bat file to setup %XAWARE_HOME% as an absolute path

rem Set up XAware_Home per the installation prompt
rem
rem
set _HOME="set.XAWARE_HOME=e:\XAware_Home"

The following step MAY be optional, and is carryover from XAware version 3.7.10 which ran on JBoss 3.2.7. I would like feedback from XAware as tools.jar may no longer be required:

2) In e:\jboss-4.0.5.GA\conf\wrapper.conf, modify the following line to point to tools.jar if still needed by the server:

# Edit classpath to point to tools.jar
#
wrapper.java.classpath.2=E:/jdk150/lib/tools.jar

<b>Another question is whether Tangosol is still OEM'ed in version5.0 for bizview caching. </b> I would imagine not and if so the following line in wrapper.conf could be deleted or commented out:

# Tangosol may longer be used in v5.0
#
wrapper.java.additional.3=-Dtangosol.coherence.cacheconfig=%XAWARE_HOME%/conf/cache_config.XML

3) Execute e:\jboss-4.0.5.GA\bin\InstallXAwareWrapper.bat and check the Service Panel (see jpg attached).

4) to Uninstall, execute e:\jboss-4.0.5.GA\bin\UninstallXAwareWrapper.bat.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your post. Too bad I was not able to benefit from the archive and text files you uploaded.

However the idea of using JavaService to install XAware server (JBoss) as a windows service is very usefull.

I think I used your option 1 (the simple one) and I did it on the default installation of XAware 5.0 designer and server.

I created a small batch files for installing the XAware service. I will try to attach them here and hope this time it is successfull...

Thanks again.

Dennis
