Adding a BizDocument reference

BizDocument and BizComponent files typically contain references to other BizView files using the xa:bizdoc, xa:bizcomp, and xa:bizdriver attributes. The value of these attributes is a path and file name of the referenced file. Relative paths are supported and encouraged. When you add a file reference, you can add it as an attribute on a selected element or add it as a child element.

  You can add a BizDocument reference to a BizView file using the Add Attribute dialog box.

  Use these steps.

  1. With the XML file open in Designer, right-click the element to which the BizDocument reference will be added and select Add attribute.

     The Add Attribute dialog box opens.

  2. Select bizdoc in the Name field.
  3. Type the path and BizDocument file name (including the .xbd file extension) in the Value field.

     The path and file name you type are converted to the value of the xa:bizdoc attribute and stored in the BizView file.

  4. Click OK.

  The xa:bizdoc attribute and value appear in the file on the selected element.

• Adding a BizDocument reference as a child element

  In Designer you can add a BizDocument reference directly as a child element.

  Use these steps.

  1. Right-click the element to which you want to add the BizDocument reference and select BizDocument Reference|Insert as child.

     The BizDocument Reference dialog box opens.

  2. Type the full path and file name of the BizDocument file in the BizDocument File field or select the file and path using the Browse button.

     The path and file name you provide are converted to the value of the xa:bizdoc attribute and stored in the BizDocument or BizComponent file. The attribute is applied to a new element that is a child of the element you selected in step 1. By default, the new child element is named for the file the xa:bizdoc attribute references.

  3. Click OK.

     The BizDocument Reference dialog box opens.

  4. Fill out the BizDocument Reference dialog box, as necessary.
  5. Click OK when you are finished.

  A new child element appears in the selected element. The name of the new element is the name of the file you selected to reference. For example, if you selected a BizDocument called reference.xbd the new child element would look like this: <reference xa:bizdoc="reference.xbd>. The xa:bizdoc attribute and value define the referenced file.

• Adding a BizDocument reference on the element

  In Designer, you can add a BizDocument reference directly on an element. These instructions are useful when the BizDocument already exists in your project. To start a new BizDocument, use these steps instead.

  Use these steps.

  1. To identify the document to be referenced, you have two options. You can:
     1. Right-click the element to which you want to add the reference and select BizDocument Reference|Apply on selected element. The BizDocument Reference dialog box opens.
     2. Type the full path and file name of the file in the BizDocument File field or select the file and path using the Browse button. Click OK when finished.

        OR, you can:

     3. Select the document to be referenced from the Project Navigator tree, drag it to the element in an open document, and release it.

        The BizDocument Reference dialog box opens.

  2. Complete the fields and selections in this dialog box, as necessary.
  3. Click OK when finished.

  The xa:bizdoc attribute and value are added to the selected element along with other, related attributes, such as xa:input, necessary to complete the reference.
